THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS.
THE PROBLEMS-:
- How was Marianne even allowed to come to England? Didn’t they do a thorough background check on her?
- It’s convenient that the ONE person who could identify Marianne is blind.
- There is conveniently only ONE police officer guarding the jail in Dieppe.
- The police officer guarding the jail is COINCIDENTALLY asleep when Max arrives.
- The Krauts conveniently arrive outside the jail JUST AFTER Max obtains a valuable piece information from Paul.
- The plane conveniently takes a LOT of time to start at the airport.
- It's VERY convenient that Max is able to figure out the truth about Marianne JUST BEFORE the crucial 72 hours are up.
- I did not like Brad Pitt’s performance in this AT ALL. He just couldn’t seem to pull off the wooden and stoic nature of his character.
- I found it very hard to care about the fate of the central characters. Because-:
- The characters themselves felt very bland and generic.
- The romantic relationship between the two main characters (the MOST important aspect of this story) felt very shallow and uninteresting. I just couldn't really buy the supposed deep connection the two had. There also seemed to be a severe lack of chemistry in their relationship and romance, which inhibited me from being sad & heartbroken during the climactic scenes.
- The CGI looked unconvincing in some parts.
- The pacing could’ve been significantly improved upon since a lot of scenes seemed to go on for longer than required.
THE POSITIVES-: - The action scenes were shot and executed well.
- The costumes and sets were all top notch.
- Marion Cotillard gave a wonderful performance.
RATING -: 5/10
