THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS.
THE NEGATIVES-: - Why did Cortez allow his voice to be recorded on Moira’s answering machine? He should’ve stayed shut and then called her back.
- Plot armor : During the car ambush, Jack Ryan is luckily the ONLY survivor, and also sustains NO injuries.
- Clark STUPIDLY decides to order the missile attack on the house without first verifying that ALL the targets are there.
- Plot armor: Cortez and gang are luckily far enough from the house when the missile hits.
- Petey CONVENIENTLY forgets to inform Jack Ryan about only logging on to Ritter’s computer AFTER he is off the system.
- Jack is LUCKILY able to print one of the important documents related to operation Reciprocity JUST BEFORE it gets deleted.
- THE CLIMAX
- LUCKILY for our protagonists, once he's informed of Cortez's betrayal, Escobedo decides to go to Cortez's office (a place which has windows and would hence help the sniper (Chavez) to shoot), instead of calling Cortez to him.
- Plot armor: The bad guys LUCKILY miss ALL the shots they take at the good guys.
THE POSITIVES-: - The performances by everyone in the cast were good, as expected.
- The action scenes were competently shot and executed in a thrilling manner.
- Apart from a handful of issues, I was genuinely impressed by how much of the story felt coherent and logical. For most of the film, there was a clear sense of deliberate adherence to cause and effect, whether it be in the plot, character writing, or the dialogues.
- Thanks to a well written script, Harrison Ford was able to portray a much more dynamic version of Jack Ryan this time around. We get a much better look at the character's personality, internal conflicts, convictions, and moral code.
- There were also bigger and better executed political themes present, with different sets of interesting players with their own agendas and motivations.
- The above factors also vastly helped in improving the pacing of the film, as even though it is longer than the first installment, it felt much more entertaining.
- In the end, because of the presence of a variety of engaging, well-cooked storylines for the audience to chew on, the overall viewing experience felt extremely satiating.
