Aliens
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS.
THE PROBLEMS-:
- Why was the door of the A.P.C left open even AFTER Ripley and the marines had been deployed?
- The alien CONVENIENTLY attacks the crew of the A.P.C once the ship has already taken off, and not while it is on the ground.
- The crash of the A.P.C ACCIDENTALLY damages the venting system, causing the base to blow up in FOUR HOURS - a very SPECIFIC time duration that LUCKILY proves to be ample enough for Ripley and Newt’s escape.
- The Aliens decide to show up in our heroes’ hideout at the EXACT time everyone discovers Burke’s evil plan.
- Vasquez & Gorman cause the explosion at the EXACT time Ripley and Newt are trying to escape via the turbine-like area, which ACCIDENTALLY leads to Newt getting separated from Ripley AND not procuring a SINGLE scratch in the process.
- Newt CONVENIENTLY gains consciousness JUST BEFORE she’s about to get impregnated.
- Newt is CONVENIENTLY able to scream loud enough for Ripley (who also CONVENIENTLY arrives in that area at that EXACT moment) to hear.
- Ripley LUCKILY manages to rescue Newt JUST BEFORE she gets impregnated by one of the face huggers.
- The explosions on the base de-track Ripley from her route and cause her to ACCIDENTALLY stumble upon the Queen Alien’s egg chamber.
- Bishop arrives with the ship JUST BEFORE the Queen Alien can catch up to Ripley and Newt. I mean, if he had been even a SECOND late, they all would’ve met a fatal end.
THE CLIMAX-:
- Even though Ripley and Bishop are standing RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER, the Queen Alien CONVENIENTLY chooses to attack BISHOP instead of Ripley. Why didn't she attack Ripley? Did she forget that RIPLEY's the one who's responsible for the destruction of her eggs?
- The Queen Alien rips Bishop's body EXACTLY in half, CONVENIENTLY leaving his arms intact, which he will later use to not only hold down his own torso, but to also catch Newt when the airlock gets opened.
- Ripley is SOMEHOW able to resist the pulling force of the Queen Alien with JUST her palm and fingers.
- The Queen Alien grabs onto Ripley’s legs and CONVENIENTLY pulls her down JUST ENOUGH that she comes within the reach of the airlock lever.
- Once the airlock gets opened, Ripley is SOMEHOW able to hold her own body weight AND the full weight of the Queen Alien, while simultaneously resisting the strong pulling force of the SPACE VACUUM.
- Bishop anchors himself in a place near the airlock where Newt will ALSO conveniently arrive and will LUCKILY be saved.
THE POSITIVES-:
Barring the few contrivances mentioned above, the film incorporates every other aspect of filmmaking in the best possible way.
The haunting soundtrack, beautiful cinematography, energetic and thrilling action scenes, effortless performances, compelling characters, clever & effective dialogues, incredibly convincing practical effects, and brilliantly executed character moments immensely elevate 'Aliens' and help the film in not only expanding the world of its predecessor, but also in guaranteeing a thoroughly immersive, entertaining, and memorable viewing experience.
RATING -: 7/10
